Monday, November 23, 2015
To raise awareness and funds for Jewish education, Rabbi Shlomo Einhorn will live-stream on Dec 24 his attempt to deliver the longest Torah class in history.
Rabbi Shlomo Einhorn is going for the record by conducting an 18-hour live streaming, longest-ever Torah Shiur (lecture) in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Jewish education.
WHAT: Rabbi Shlomo Einhorn, Dean of Yavneh Hebrew Academy, will be attempting to deliver the longest UNINTERRUPTED Torah lecture ever from Dec. 23rd at 11:59 p.m. to Dec. 24th at 6 p.m. PST. The goal of the record setting Torah class is to raise funds in support of students who can’t afford Jewish Day School and to educate the public on the importance of a Jewish Education.
This is not your grandfather’s Torah Shiur. Rabbi Einhorn will focus on a different subtopic every hour for the full 18 hours, and the lectures promise to be eye opening, controversial, exciting and enlightening. Among the topics:
The Chosen People and Three Other Arrogant claims
Two Jews, Four Opinions: Why do we Always Argue?
John Lennon’s “Imagine” Experiment: What would the world be without religion.
Jacob’s Ladder and The Stairway to Heaven: Does Secular Culture Have a Home in This Religion
Did the Israelites Miss the Train? Did the Messiah Already Come?
Rabbi Einhorn will be lecturing from Yavneh Hebrew Academy. At the end of the 18 hours there will be a dinner celebration with the student body and community members, as the students celebrate their own achievement, mastering 18,000 questions on Sefer Bereishit, Genesis- the first book of The Five Books of Moses.
With a goal of raising $200,000 towards Jewish education, viewers can watch and donate by going to www.longestshiur.com
WHY: Jewish education …. The cornerstone of Jewish continuity and Judaism’s empowering message to the world lies in its ability to educate.
Why 18 hours? We live in a world where everything needs to be way under 18 minutes (even Matzoh). We live in a world where our attention span is rapidly depleting. This is an attempt to shift to the other extreme. A force against nature. 18 CONSECUTIVE HOURS. “I’m not sure I can do all 18 hours,” says Rabbi Einhorn, “but I will give it everything I have. You can watch me battle with joy for all 18 hours or by stopping by for any part of the event here at Yavneh or live online @ www.LongestShiur.com.”
WHO: Rabbi Einhorn, author of Judaism Alive, is a graduate of Yavneh Hebrew Academy. In 2005 he became the Head Rabbi of New York’s West Side Institutional Synagogue. Seven years later this once empty Shul was drawing over 400 people each week and had increased synagogue membership by 70 percent. Upon returning to Los Angeles as Dean of Yavneh in 2012, Rabbi Einhorn began giving Torah lectures across the city, to both Orthodox and non-Orthodox groups. He is also known for his amazing memory and his ability to quote from dozens of Torah sources, while at the same time referencing pop culture, heroes and self help gurus. To prepare for his 18-hour lecture, Rabbi Einhorn is training with a vocal coach and doing other exercises to get in shape for the longest Shiur ever.
Yavneh Hebrew Academy is one of the premier Orthodox day schools in the country. Over 3,000 students have graduated from Yavneh.
