Local Area Information

Seattle, Washington is an interesting mix of urban attractions and natural outdoor beauty.  With much cultural diversity and an abundance of personality, Seattle is an excellent travel location offering unique experiences for travelers. Seattle is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest and is surrounded by various sources of water. Temperatures typically fluctuate anywhere from 36°F to 78°F and light rain showers are common. Despite being over 70 miles away from Seattle, Mt. Rainier is visible as it peeks over the city. This vibrant interesting city is the perfect destination for a trip.
Seattle offers an exceptional variety of interesting sights for guest including exquisite art galleries and museums, parks and gardens, as well as having the Original Starbuck Coffee Shop.

The major trademark for the Seattle area is the Seattle Space Needle originally built for the 1964 World’s Fair.  With an unbeatable view from the Observation Deck, the Seattle Space Needle is the best place for the greatest views of Seattle.

Seattle is also home to one of the oldest farmer’s markets in the United States called Pike Place Market. This must see destination features antiques, clothing, food, handmade crafts, as well as other interesting finds. Similar to the market is the World Famous Pike Place Fish Market that sells a variety of sea food, such as wild salmon, crab and shellfish, as well as an abundance of specialty fish.

The newest edition to Seattle’s attractions is on Pier 57 near Elliot Bay, The Seattle Great Wheel. Just last year on June 26th, 2012 the largest Ferris wheel on the west coast was opened.  With fantastic views of the city, the Seattle Great Wheel is a must for travelers!
Seattle has a vibrant and flourishing Jewish community and is full of Jewish attractions. The reformed Jewish Temple, Temple De Hirsch Sinai, is a mix of space age and classical designs. The interior of the building is 1960’s space age inspired, while the exterior has Hellenistic columns for an elegant touch. The temple is open to the public and contains a library filled with books, papers, and Jewish films.

Getting Around Seattle

The most affordable way to get around downtown Seattle is to take Seattle’s light rail – Central Link.  The cost of riding Central Link is based on how far you travel. One-way adult tickets start with a base fare of $2.00 and add five cents to the base fare for every mile of your trip.  You can buy a ticket from the ticket vending machine (TVM) on the Link train platform. TVMs accept cash, VISA or MasterCard.  You cannot purchase tickets once on board, so please have valid fare before getting on the train.
