The Association for Jewish Studies Launches New Podcast Miniseries on Antisemitism

(NEW YORK, NY, November 2025) The Association for Jewish Studies (AJS) has released a special four-part podcast miniseries exploring antisemitism, examining its origins, evolution, and contemporary manifestations. The series responds to the alarming rise in antisemitic incidents and attacks worldwide, offering listeners historical depth and scholarly insight into one of today’s most urgent issues facing the global Jewish community.

The four episodes are:

  • Structural Antisemitism, featuring Magda Teter, Fordham University Professor of History and the Shvidler Chair of Judaic Studies. This episode explores how laws, policies, institutional practices, and cultural norms have historically singled out Jews and enforced their marginalization from the Roman Empire to the present.
  • Medieval Antisemitism, featuring Sara Lipton, Stony Brook University Professor and Chair of the Department of History. This episode looks at how medieval imagery and ideas laid the groundwork for enduring antisemitic stereotypes, showing how political and religious dynamics over centuries shaped the myths later adopted by modern hate movements.
  • American Antisemitism, featuring Pamela Nadell, American University Patrick Clendenen Chair in Women’s and Gender History and director of the Jewish Studies Program. This episode traces the evolution of antisemitism in the United States, revealing how it has persisted throughout the American Jewish experience and how today’s resurgence draws on long-dormant prejudices.
  • Anti-Zionism, featuring James Loeffler, Johns Hopkins University Felix Posen Professor of Jewish History and director of the Stulman Jewish Studies Program. This episode discusses the various forms of anti-Zionism and its intersections with antisemitism, highlighting how historical understanding can clarify the difference between principled critique and prejudice.

The miniseries is part of the AJS’s “Adventures in Jewish Studies” podcast, which launched in December 2018. With more than forty episodes,, the series brings academic scholarship to a broad public audience through accessible and engaging storytelling.

The Association for Jewish Studies is the largest learned society and professional organization representing Jewish Studies scholars worldwide, with nearly 1,800 members in over 30 countries. The mission of the AJS is to advance research and teaching in Jewish Studies at colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher learning, and to foster greater understanding of Jewish Studies scholarship among the wider public.
