CJN Foundation Internships - The Cleveland Jewish Publication Company City

Organization: The Cleveland Jewish Publication Company

Date Posted: 9/13/2019

City: Cleveland

Location: Ohio

Country: United States

Description & Details

The CJN Foundation supports the CJN internship program, which builds future Jewish media professionals and connects them to the Jewish community.

CJN interns experience the Cleveland Jewish community and grow professionally as they learn about and practice journalism and print and electronic communications. Many return to Cleveland as adults: “I formed strong ties to the Jewish community during the years I worked as a CJN intern. This helped inspire my decision to move back to Cleveland after law school,” noted Gayle I. Horwitz of South Euclid, a CJN board officer.

In 2011, the CJN Foundation created the Violet Spevack Internship Endowment to ensure perpetual funding for an intern to work in the editorial department and cover stories of interest in the Jewish community. The endowment was created at an event celebrating the 95th birthday of Violet Spevack, who has been writing the Cavalcade column in the Cleveland Jewish News since March 5, 1965 – six months after the paper itself debuted.

Elana Fink, of Beachwood, was the first to hold the title of Violet Spevack Editorial Intern, serving at the Cleveland Jewish News in summer 2012 until returning to continue her studies at The Ohio State University.
