Hadassah Magazine, an award-winning national publication focused on Jewish women, is looking for a Digital Editor. This is a unique opportunity to help transform the online presence of one of the largest-circulation Jewish media outlets, which is owned by Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America (HWZOA). The Digital Editor will be responsible for managing the digital operation, including social media and the website, with the goal of driving audience development and engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

Create and implement a social media strategy that expands the magazine’s reach on social networks and increases traffic to the magazine’s website.

Create lively and innovative social media assets, using Photoshop and/or Canva, to Post on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/; maintain social media calendar. Develop outreach campaigns to target younger followers across social media as well as general campaigns to grow the number of overall followers.

Work with the magazine’s senior editors to manage the magazine’s website and ensure that site content is up-to-date and engaging.

Produce and manage the magazine’s monthly e-newsletter and other digital projects.

Write, edit and post original content.

Create photo and video content for and for social media platforms

Develop partnerships and cultivate relationships with other outlets with complementary goals.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 plus years of experience in digital journalism and social media

Comfort and experience with WordPress CMS, Photoshop and Canva

In-depth knowledge of social media platforms, SEO and analytics

Highly motivated and team-oriented

Stellar writing and editing skills

Self-starter who is quick, efficient and capable of meeting tight deadlines required by digital work and makes it a priority to stay on top of the evolving digital landscape

Mid-Atlantic Media, a fast-growing publisher of niche community and ethnic titles, is seeking to add an editor to lead its full time publishing project Phoenix Jewish News in Scottsdale, AZ .

We’re looking for a leader who is connected and will be involved in the fabric of the greater Phoenix Jewish community. An editor that can help elevate Phoenix Jewish News' visibility, awareness and journalistic quality. An editor that can lead with a digital news approach and deliver our bi-weekly print product. An editor that can work through copious amounts of copy and serve as a mentor to develop staff and freelance writers. The ability to juggle multiple projects, and the willingness to help shape multiple publications and their online experience is a must. Occasional travel will be expected. Familiarity with the Jewish community is a plus.

Assignment editor – Help our writers uncover local scoops, select stories for coverage, create a rundown and communicate with officials, sources and readers. Monitor email and social media for story ideas and trends.

Copy editor – Regularly check and correct our reporters’ copy for errors, awkward phrasing, verbosity and un-engaging wording. Uphold AP Style and our house style.

Team leader – Set high editorial standards and motivate the teams to produce compelling, accurate community and national journalism that wins followers and makes a difference. When needed, the editor will lead by example, reporting stories them-self and assisting with breaking news coverage.

Editorial strategist – Engage with the community and help spread the word about our sites and our journalism. Work closely with the publishers to plan and execute further growth. Also, assist other management with company-wide editorial initiatives.

CJN Seeks Full-Time Staff Reporter

The Cleveland Jewish News has an immediate opening for a full-time staff reporter. The ideal candidate will have a nose for news, possess strong writing and editing skills, be digitally savvy, and have experience with photography and videography.

The Staff Reporter will cover breaking news, hard news, spot news and features for our award- winning weekly newspaper and post content to our award-winning website, Staff Reporter will also write short-form content and long-form feature stories for our award-winning magazines and produce content for our sister publication, the Columbus Jewish News.

Candidates who can develop sources, know how to work a beat and want to scoop the competition are encouraged to apply. The CJN competes with all other media to break stories and has won more than 250 awards in the last five years, including being named best non-daily newspaper in Ohio by the Cleveland Press Club and The Associated Press.

Candidates should have a minimum of two to three years of daily newspaper or other relevant experience, be self-starters, work well under pressure, ability to consistently meet assigned deadlines, ability to adapt to team environments and work independently, be a team player, have the ability to handle multiple assignments at one time and produce high-quality, accurate and error-free content. The CJN is an AP newsroom and familiarity with AP style in a digital first environment is desired. Experience writing and editing using Adobe Creative Cloud programs, including InCopy and InDesign, desired, but not required. Proficiency in all social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube preferred.

Recent college graduates who have demonstrated the above requirements through coursework and/or internships will be considered. This position will require some evening and Sunday assignments.
