Usage Rights/Public Domain Policies

AJPA conference speaker Debora Wenger, discussing the Google News Initiative, touched on the importance of checking to ensure photos taken from the web are in the usage rights. As this is an issue that is unclear to many, we have compiled resources for AJPA members to use for reference. Please be sure to share these not only with both your newsroom and production staffs but also with sales staff who may work with advertising clients on designing ads. Keep in mind that usage rights works may be used in news articles and advisements, but artwork that is considered fair use for a news article may not be used in an advertisement.
